TOOLS   /   SECURITY & DEVICES

The best security & devices tools
for organizations that want to use AI.

This category is a stack, not a choice. Intune and Defender for Business are included with Microsoft 365 Business Premium and cover devices and endpoints for most organizations; 1Password is the best password manager and Canadian-built; a SaaS backup like Datto or Dropsuite is non-negotiable because Microsoft and Google don't back up your data for you; KnowBe4 handles the people. CrowdStrike and Kandji are upgrades, not starting points.

The pickMicrosoft Intune

Device management included with Business Premium. Covers Windows, macOS, iOS and Android.

8.1

Why we picked it

1Password tops the score for governance and Canadian residency, and it's the cheapest meaningful control an organization can buy. The real answer is the five basics together, which is what the module Protected Workplace does.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

Intune is included but rarely configured; Defender is good enough rather than best in class. Backup is boring until the morning it isn't.

Also great, and the budget pick

CrowdStrike when an insurer or an enterprise client demands a named EDR vendor. Kandji for Apple-only fleets that want polished zero-touch setup. Business Premium already includes most of this. Add 1Password and SaaS backup; that's the whole stack for under CAD 20 per person.

Also greatDefender for Business

Endpoint protection included with Business Premium. Good enough for most under 300.

What to skip

Consumer antivirus and a VPN subscription as 'security'. They address none of the five insurer questions.

How we score

Five things, weighted into one number: native AI (25%), whether your own AI can act on it through an API or connector (25%), whether your assistant can reach the data and you can export it (20%), governance such as admin control, no-training terms and audit logs (20%), and Canadian data residency (10%). Scores are GoodOps judgement, revisited as vendors ship. Some tools pay us a referral fee; we say so and it never changes the pick.
